Rosacea is one of the common skin disorder that can cause inflammation, red acne, rashes, red patches and sudden red blushing of the skin. It mainly affects cheeks, nose and forehead. It is also known as ‘Adult Acne’.
There are 4 subtypes of Rosacea and each subtype has its own set of symptoms.
- Subtype 1 is known as ‘Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea’. It’s associated with flushing and persistent redness and visible blood vessels.
- Subtype 2 is known as ‘Acne Rosacea’ or ‘Papulopustular Rosacea’ which is associated with red acne, acne-like breakouts and rashes.
- Subtype 3 is known as ‘ Rhinophyma’ which is a rare form of rosacea. It’s associated with the thickening of the skin of your nose.
- Subtype 4 is ‘Ocular Rosacea’ and it mainly affect the eye area.
Subtype 1 & 2 are the common form of rosacea. Subtype 3 & 4 requires a proper medical treatment.
You can control or treat subtype 1 & 2 rosacea by using following products. But! but! before using these products please consult with your dermatologist . I have used both of them to control my rosacea. You can choose anyone among them by asking your doctor.
Metronidazole, which is available in the form of gels, creams and lotions, is used to treat rosacea, skin rashes and bacterial infection of the skin. To treat rosacea, a thin layer of metronidazole gel should be rubbed on affected areas once or twice daily. Metronidazole gel, creams and lotion available as :-
- Topical Gel ( 0.75%, 1%)
- Cream or Lotion ( 0.75%)
It may have some side effects too like:- skin dryness, irritation, burning and stinging etc. So consult with a good dermatologist to use this product. Your dermatologist will suggest you a product that contains ‘Metronidazole’.
Azelaic acid gel, cream or lotion is used to treat the bumps, red-acne and swelling caused by rosacea. Azelaic acid works by decreasing the swelling and redness of the skin.
